Tiki Outer Atolls Boat trip Feb 06.

Diary:

Day 7

Cloudy start (clouds in the Maldives!) so we head over to a nice left and take out longboards in the shoulder high clean waves. Joel is on fire on his shortboard; its ridiculous.
Swam to a lagoon that afternoon and inadvertently introduced the local kids to Frisbee. They were so stoked we left the Frisbee with them afterwards.
Finished the day with a sunset longboard sesh, sharing waves and noserides. The swell is definitely coming!

Day 8

No it isn’t! There’s a small wave but we’re all pretty keen to get our teeth into something with some size. Then we kick ourselves and remember how fortunate we are, basking in the sun, surfing clean tropical waves in February.
We’re all feeling anticipation though. Rumours about the coming swell circulate the boat (there’s only 10 off us!). Time to crack open some whisky, as the poker games get serious.

Day 9

A bit wobbly first thing and I don’t think its sea legs. A short reprieve as the boats motors to that righthander again. We catch the tide just right and get a solid session of head high shallow barrels that spit as they hit the inside ledge. This is what we came for and Sophie has a chance to display her gung-ho approach. With a long wait between sets no wave goes unridden. Its so hot and sunny, the water is crystal clear and for a couple of hours it all comes together.
